Halestorm shared it…If you like Halestorm they recommended “The Pretty Reckless”. They have 2 albums on iTunes. I prefer the 2nd album & rarely listen to the 1st album. So you might want to check out “Going to Hell” which is their 2nd album?

This is the problem with the music industry at the moment. Now you not only have to be talented, which is no longer what music labels look at necessarily, you have to be rich, before you get a shot to be famous. If you don’t have the money, it’s likely going to be a long uphill battle if you want to be a musician.

Corey Taylor (Stone Sour/Slipknot) article with Rolling Stone. It’s more of a rant!

Pitcher Marcus Stroman on his former team mate David Price.

The Toronto Blue Jays have a new President who hired a new General Manager. They worked together for many seasons in Cleveland for the Cleveland Indians both in the same roles. Yes, Cleveland has been a very mediocre team the last X number of years. If you look at the attendance of Cleveland or their win-loss numbers, both the new President, Mark Shapiro, & GM, Ross Atkins, have terrible resume’s. Mark Shapiro should hold a press conference so the fans get to know him & what he’s going to do with Canada’s baseball team? Right now the majority of Blue Jays fans are throwing him under the bus. Why not wait & see what happens in 2016? If the Jays don’t make the playoffs, then judge him. They had more revenue last season than ever before. Money should not be an issue, the budget is set at the same amount it was last year $145,000,000. If more money is needed, it shouldn’t be a problem. Mark Shapiro is being painted as a villain at the moment, give him a year THEN whine & complain if you want to? If the team doesn’t make the playoffs, don’t buy the merchandise, don’t watch the games, & don’t go to the games. He’ll be on a very short leash. I’m guessing 3 years at most if the owner doesn’t see any improvement. It’s December 23rd at the moment & we’re talking about baseball, that’s a good sign for the city & organization. I feel sorry for Bob McCown every Monday & Friday when he takes calls that are 95% irate Blue Jay fans asking questions he doesn’t have the answers to. Sit back, keep quiet, & wait to see what happens? It’s a transition period for Mark Shapiro & Ross Atkins, at least give them a full season instead of a 2 month off season?

Completely different topic. My father & his co-workers all (8?) an Apple Watch from their employer as their Christmas gift. That’s awesome, that’s great! My dad works at a home theater/technology installer place. He designs whatever is being installed, does the estimate & sends out the installers with all of the info to install the speakers, TV(s), security system, network, USB outlets, etc.

They sell HUGE TVs like 84 inch curved HD TVs, yet every mobile device is getting smaller? There were laptops, tablets/iPads, iPad air, iPhones 1-6, Google glasses, & now a ½ screen on your wrist that you squint at to see & now you say to yourself “Ooooh, I got an email! I’ll have to check it on a larger device”. I’m not discounting the Apple Watch, I’m sure it has it’s pros & cons, but now you have a watch that will let you know you’ve received an email, facebook PM, a tweet, text, instagram, linkedin, etc. but it’s really small, so you’ll have to check it out on a larger screen? Pros & cons for all of these advancements in technology. Maybe it’s because I have one eye, but that watch screen is tiny? Weird?

Halestorm shared it on facebook. I REALLY like this band!

Ah, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on re-gifting!!!

Will this idea save “Columbia House” or kill it?

Surprise! I have another question for whoever is reading this. Does cover artwork really matter in the case of digital music? I like having a tangible product like a CD in my hand, but I’m out of physical space for it. I now get almost all of my music from iTunes. The only time I see the artwork is when I purchase the album & before my screen saver kicks in on my TV after 1 ½ songs? If I’m listening to my iPod, I rarely look at the artwork. Into my pocket or beside me on the bed it goes. How much does the artwork on an album matter to you in this digital era of music? Artwork is likely a reason I became a printing press operator. At the end of a shift I could hold a piece of paper & say “Hey, I helped in the making of this product!”.

Florence & The Machine cover The Beatles in Paris.

I guess all of this Guns n’ Roses reunion talk could likely be true. They can do their thing, pretend it’s 1987 & I’ll be way over here in 2016 when it happens. I was so happy when the home town Roughriders started playing a song from 2013 instead of 1987’s “Welcome to the Jungle” at kickoff!! I’m likely the odd one on this though.

The BIG sports story of 2015. 22 years with no playoff games. Yeah, but baseball sucks. “Oh, there’s a bandwagon, where do I jump on?” I’ve been watching the Blue Jays since 1990, that’s when I jumped on & stayed on. ALL bandwagon jumpers are more than welcome!

Top 10 albums of 2015 by another individual. I guess I should check out the new Marilyn Manson album, it seems to be on everybody else’ list?

First off, it was a really great year in music for me. Even better than 2014. That being said this was a VERY difficult list to compile, which I’m positive will have a TON of honourable mentions. I started to make this list in early-mid November. It has changed many times!!! Here is my top 10 albums of the year. Quite a few of the honourable mentions could have easily made the list!

This is it. I’m done for the year, no more blog posts this year! I’ll catch you on January 4th with a post. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year & whatever else you celebrate. For the non religious folk, enjoy the time off at work!

  1. Pentatonix “Pentatonix”

  1. Halestorm “Into the Wild Life”

  1. Tremonti “Cauterize”

  1. Highly Suspect “Mister Asylum” LANGUAGE!!!!

  1. Trivium “Silence in the Snow”

  1. Finger Eleven “Five Crooked Lines”

  1. Lamb of God “VII: Strum Und Drang” This album has some stuff I have never heard on any Lamb of God album. He actually sings a bit, there is a guest singer, & they also use the talk box effect on a guitar track, where you shape the guitar sound with your mouth into letters using rubber tube into a microphone. I’ve never tried it.

  1. Coheed & Cambria “The Color Before the Sun” LANGUAGE!!!

  1. Ian Fletcher Thornley “Secrets” Not much on www.youtube.com Live version of the title track!

  1. Zac Brown Band “Jekyll + Hyde”! Wait before you lose your mind? Yes, it’s a country music band, but it’s not a country music album. Pop, jazz, orchestral, drinking tunes, etc. This was the most diverse album I heard this year by far.

Honorable Mentions that could have easily made the list, a few released late in the year I didn’t really get a chance to digest….

Foo Fighters “Saint Cecilia EP”

Eagles of Death Metal “Zipper Down”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds “Chasing Yesterday”

Walk off the Earth “Sing it all Away”

Sevendust “Kill The Flaw”

Third Ion “13/8 bit”

Meg Myers “Sorry”

Iron Maiden “The Book of Souls”

Clutch “Psychic Warfare”

Barenaked Ladies “Silverball”

A. D. D. “Core”

Puscifer “Money Shot”

The Agonist “Eye of Providence”

These were released in 2015 & just didn’t live up to my expectations. Muse is good musically but the lyrics become redundant. My Morning Jacket is awesome live, the albums leave me wanting to hear them live. Fall Out Boy just pales compared to their previous release “Save Rock n’ Roll”. I still listen to these albums, just not as often as I thought I would.

Muse “Drones”

My Morning Jacket “The Waterfall”

Fall Out Boy “American Beauty/American Psycho”

My favourite musical act of the year goes to “Pentatonix” their album, all original other than 1 song of 17 A Capella songs (no instruments) debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts.

Loudwire’s Top 50 Metal songs of the 21st century. I know & own a few of these, a lot of it is “WHO????????” for me.

I posted a blog about “reality” TV in the past & I’d like to explain it in a more detailed way. “Reality” TV is not actually real. I think it should all of it should be on a game show network, because that’s most “reality” TV shows are, game shows! “If you can achieve this task, within these rules & conditions, you’ll win this prize”. Quite a few people like it, and that’s fine. If Kim is watching it, I leave the room usually. Not what I want to see. With a talk show, or news those are REAL EVENTS! If it’s a scripted show it’s like a painter with a blank canvas. A writer or team of writers can go anywhere with whatever topic! I find fictional shows much more interesting along with news & talk shows. No rules or limits, just entertainment. That’s all I want, entertain me. I don’t care for “reality” shows, but that’s just me.

If I want to see baseball, football, basketball, soccer, tennis, Olympics, golf, etc., I’ll watch them. If I want to see fighting I can watch MMA, UFC, boxing or the NHL. If I want to see hockey, I have to wait until I see a European game on TV. The NHL, for me, has been on a steady decline since the late 1990s. I used to really like watching the NHL, now it’s just a channel to pass. It’s more about pummeling the opponent to within inches of death? Anybody ever consider scoring? These 3-2 games suck since the players are more focused on beating the other guy bloody than beating the opposing team on the score board!

Top live acts in 2015. I didn’t get out to as many shows as I would have liked to. I think I saw a handful of shows?

Royal Blood opened for Foo Fighters in Calgary, Finger Eleven was here for a show, Ed Sheeran as well. I think In Flames were in Saskatoon this year. I saw Third Ion at the Exchange earlier this year as well as Into Eternity I think ? There’s likely more!

Megadeth is playing in Moose Jaw tonight. I found out last night that the arena in Moose Jaw holds less people than the one here in Regina. Our arena holds 6,200 people, Moose Jaw’s arena holds 4,456, Saskatoon’s arena holds 14,311. So why are big name acts like Megadeth not playing in Regina, but in Moose Jaw? Motley Crue played there last year as well with Big Wreck opening for them? I don’t understand it? Could be the sound, the price of the venue, the backstage area, etc. All I can say is that a road trip to Moose Jaw is much better than another trip to Saskatoon! Saskatoon is a very boring drive.

If you go out killing people left, right & center, how are you getting them to convert to your religion? Yes there are extremists in every religion who would partake in a Jihad/”Holy War”. I’m not saying one religion is better than the other or that any religion is better than no religion, let others do as they please. If I’m dead how will you convert me?

When did it suddenly become cool to swear on stage at a rock or metal concert? I can deal with it, I just paid to see you live $15-$150/ticket. Now you’re going to stand up there & call entire audience mother@$#&^%(* for the next hour or more? After the show you’re going to go home & sleep in the bed all of us mother@#$%^&( paid for? Why would anyone pay someone to curse at me? Yes, I swear, never on stage though with any band. I mostly swear at myself when I do something stupid. I like hearing live music, all of the extra stuff I DON’T NEED! Try to compose your thoughts without calling the PAYING audience names. If I don’t like it, I’ll walk away & possibly not see you live again!

I think it’s pretty brave to release a movie in theaters on the same day as a “Star Wars” movie. That being said, most other theaters that are playing other movies will be next to empty aka it should be a good time to go to any other movie. I read somewhere that the new “Star Wars” movie has already made $50,000,000 in presale tickets alone.

Thursday, December 10th, in Moose Jaw? Megadeth is playing. So now Regina citizens have the option to go to a bigger city (Saskatoon) or a smaller city that’s much closer (Moose Jaw) to see big name acts? Yeah we don’t need a bigger arena at all! I can go 2.5 hours North to Saskatoon or 45 minutes West to Moose Jaw to see a show that no one will take me to because they don’t like the music. If I was able to drive & get to the washroom by myself I’d go on my own.

GOOD GRIEF! I would hate to be a Toronto Blue Jays analyst at the moment. I was watching “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown” yesterday. Mondays & Fridays the first hour of his show is set aside to take calls from anyone that wants to talk about a major North American sport. It was Monday, December 7th. Every call was a Blue Jays fan talking about “Why didn’t Toronto sign David Price?” I think it’s time to let it go. He signed with Boston last week! IT’S DONE, IT’S OVER!! Complain all you want, nothing will change his mind or contract. He signed with Boston for $31,000,000/year. Personally that’s WAY TOO MUCH, especially for a pitcher that plays every 5 days & has yet to win a game in the playoffs. Even I’m getting sick of hearing about David Price! “LET IT GO” ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Disney did!

Everything is still brown waiting for the snow to fall. It just doesn’t quite feel right. It feels more like a very nice halloween. I want snow. I even turned off our heater, I think it kicked in once, because it has never been below room temperature here, it’s usually 25 Celsius, 77 Fahrenheit. I try to get my workout done as early as possible, after I finish a black coffee, a fruit & vegetable drink that I make & leave in the fridge, along with some water. Most of the time Brewster sleeps through it, today he didn’t. I’m on the floor to do 2 sets of 25 push ups this morning the entire time with a dog licking or biting my right hand?
