This the first release of many I’m waiting for in the 2nd half of 2014
I guess I did get the new Opeth album the other day. Of course it’s GREAT to my ears.

I’m really tired at the end of this week. I really have little ambition to be online for more than 20 minutes. I’ll be here, just need to rest a bit!

Seeing all of this praise for Jack White, I just don’t understand? He’s good at what he did/does. “The White Stripes” weren’t that original. 1 guitar and 1 mediocre drummer! Anyone from Canada remember “The Inbreds”? 1 bass and 1 drummer, in the ’90s. I’m not saying they’re better, but is it the originality that Jack White is praised for? Honestly I’m not really a fan of either pair, I don’t know them personally and don’t expect to. Jack White seems to be a good person, but could anyone please fill me in on way he’s so fantastic?

I predicted Our Lady Peace would rocket to stardom with their first release, the album “Naveed” not the 2nd album “Clumsy”. From “Clumsy” onward, the singing became more nasally than the previous album. By about the 4th album “Spiritual Machines”, that was as nasally as I could take. Yet I bought every CD up to and including “Burn, Burn”. One song from the first 4 albums.

I’ll stay on facebook, follow very few people, SORRY. I’ll follow mostly the musicians I enjoy. Facebook is where all of my music information comes from. That’s why, again, SORRY! My cancer story is long gone, it feels like it was a nightmare that happened 40 years ago, and I’m only 34! If there’s something anyone wants to know, feel free to ask. Most importantly, DO NOT CALL ME A “HERO”! I got very lucky if you ask me! I don’t have a clue as to what Kim felt from Tuesday, February 5th 2008-now. Brain cancer could effect the rest of my life? My father tells me at every Rider home game that my balance is getting noticeably better. I guess all of those mornings working out, walking w/ my walker, recumbent exercise bike, yoga, push ups and crunches are helping, doesn’t mean I like them though. I’d much rather sit on the couch, in my underwear and watch WB cartoons with a big ol’ bowl of popcorn! But NO! That’s what I do after my workout….NEVER! If I could find “Looney Toons” or “Baby Looney Toons”, it would consume ALL of my attention everyday until I had watched it 3 or 4 times, “Muppet Babies”
I like to get my stuff done so I can spend the rest of the day recovering. FYI-This is WAY to early I came out to the kitchen at 5:30am. I had to go to the washroom just before 3:00am, then couldn’t fall asleep. After 2 hours of tossing and turning, I figured I might as well get up! Right now I can’t see the couch, but it’s calling me! I can hear it!
My music question for the day is, can music aid in a life or death situation? I would have to say yes! When I was in a coma for 4-5 weeks, my wonderful wife brought 3 of my favourite albums to the hospital when I wasn’t expected to come out of a coma. She brought Foo Fighters “The Colour and The Shape”, one of the two Big Wreck albums at the time and she can’t remember the 3rd one since it was so long ago. What were you listening to in early 2008? I’m guessing no one has a clue. I wouldn’t!
If you ask me, YES, music can be a determining factor in a life or death situation, and being surrounded by incredible family & friends helps even more! Yep, there is no fount that Kim’s the right gal for this city boy. My mother ran into one of my doctors at the Pasqua Hospital who said “Young couples usually end up separated going threw something like we did. Your daughter-in-law is the best wife I have ever seen”. I hope he’s not married! Thank you everyone! These are the CDs that Kim likely brought to the hospital for me. Well 2/3 anyways.
Did that feel like an award speech to anyone else?

For anyone near Washington that like jazz or blues!
“Washington, DC August 26, 2014– Jazz Recording artist and local DC Musician Aaron Myers will be headlining at Blues Alley September 3rd for two sets 8pm and 10pm. This appearance will be his first performance at the nation’s finest Jazz and Supper Club.
“I am beyond excited about the engagement. It is indeed an honor to perform where so many greats have performed before me” said Aaron Myers. “I do not take for granted the opportunity that has been afforded me. It is my sincere prayer to give it my all while on stage”
Myers, who began his musical career in Texas, has been a mainstay on the local jazz scene. In 2013 he released his debut album “Leo Rising” nationally, being reviewed nationally and locally. Currently, Myers is the Resident Artist at the Black Fox Lounge, where he has performed over 130 shows, and plans on doing many more.
“To those who come out to the show, they will be in for a great treat! Music, Comedy, and the works!” , said Myers. “I will be backed up by Mark Meadows, Herb Scott, Paul Jung, and my dear friend Percy White! We are all good friends who respect each others talents…we’re just ready to have a good time on stage. I am sure the people will feel that energy!”

There is no way to support musicians anymore. Unless you go to a show, pay for your ticket, buy the album there, and some type of merchandise! So when your new favourite band or artist pop’s up, don’t expect to see them release more than two albums. They financially are unable to create a new album. So say goodbye to a recently signed artist(s). Who makes money on iTunes sales and a $15 CD now. The label and manager! I don’t know about Netflix? They must be making money some how? So if your getting music from a Torrent site, iTunes, a CD store, Spotify, etc. It really doesn’t matter. iTunes is easy and convenient Cheap music & you don’t need to leave the comfort of your house. As I’ve said before, LET THE ARTIST SET THE PRICE OF THEIR MUSIC!!!!!! Some will say take it for free, since they’ve been around for so long and have multi million dollars! Some will go to the top price of $20. I think $20 is a reasonable cap, the CDs behind me, roughly 600 of them were all bought by me at $25 a CD. Trading or copying music between friends is legal and fine. You’ve probably asked or received a mix-tape, copied tape or a burnt CD, so I’m not worried about letting friends copy my files or burning a CD for them. I’m not taking money away from an artist unless it’s a local artist(s). If I got it from iTunes, or a CD store, they aren’t making a penny from that sale anyways!
Kim paints to make extra money. I guess you’ll see it as wrong? So she should just give the paintings away for free right? Most people pay for cable or satellite TV, to watch whatever they like. Should that be free? Should groceries, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, medication, restaurant food, etc. be free too? Then who would produce any of those things? Demand would increase, raising the price, and supply would decrease. You’ll learn about supply & demand in your last couple years of elementary school kids.
Music is a type of art too. So at the moment there’s really no way to support an up & coming artist, unless they’re unsigned and tour all over the world and only sell CDs at shows. Then at their 2nd show, everyone will be singing along to every song because lil’ Johnny next door was at the first show and bought the $20 CD and came home with it and put the entire album on the internet for a free download on a torrent site or on Songza.
Do I need Serious XM? No I’ll play my iPod with my $25 CDs and $10 downloads from iTunes that only make the rich richer!
All of that said, a BIG SARCASTIC THANK YOU to Shaun Parker (Napster inventor) and Steve Jobs (iTunes inventor), you’ve both had a hand in ruining the music industry! Now something is screwed up/broken and needs to be fixed! It was fine before you screwed it up.

Why? This makes 0 sense to me. You’ve got a “Pop” category for this type of music. There’s no new “rock” bands signed in the last 2 or 3 years that are exceptionally good and famous at the moment. So WHY? http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/08/lorde-wins-vma-for-best-rock-video-beating-out-arctic-monkeys-and-the-black-keys/ I think anyone else in the category should have won, that being said all a music award means is that you got more votes from whoever was voting, maybe even 1 vote! And This is what I want to address today.
This “rock” music coming out sounds nothing like real rock music today and that’s a big part of why I don’t listen to Regina’s Rock Station 104.9 FM. I either own it, it’s old or new music and I don’t like it. The “rock” bands coming out today sound much closer to Country music. I don’t hate country music in any way, but it’s not something I listen to on a regular basis. That’s why I went to metal groups/music. Name a REALLY good rock band that has become the new band to watch. The last one I remember that was highly touted was “Nickleback” now they have 2 haters per fan. No one has to hate them, they’re doing something they like and millions of others like. If you’re not a fan, turn the radio to a different station, turn it off, listen to your iPod or iPhone. If something you don’t like comes through the speakers at a restaurant, wait 3:30 minutes and something else will come on.
I watch Blue Jays baseball, I don’t agree with 85% of the stuff they do, I also don’t get to pick who plays wherever or whenever. I’m not the Field Manager or the General Manager. I’m a couch manager, here in the middle of nowhere, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
I didn’t expect the world to stop for the 4.5 years I was battling brain cancer and it’s effects. I certainly didn’t expect to be beaten over the head with this new fan dangled “rock” music though

Anyone ever heard of “Orange Goblin”? There are quite a few albums on iTunes and no I haven’t bought any. I’ll have to do another preview on iTunes. First reaction for me, they sounded pretty good, for a hard rock/metal band.
Regina’s music venues. My favourite venue is no longer a music venue, The Distrikt. It closed last year, but I saw/discovered really good bands there. Big Wreck, The Headstones, Shadows Fall, Thornley, The New Meanies, Nickelback at the start of their career, Finger Eleven, Our Lady Peace played there 7 or 8 years ago, etc.
If you’re in a new original music group you get a choice of the Exchange (AWESOME venue) or the Riddel Center at the university. Any cover/tribute band can play anywhere and receive a much higher pay day. I don’t know if anybody still uses Doris Knight Hall (the basement of the Conexus Arts Center)? Holds roughly 1,000 people. I saw I Mother Earth, Finger Eleven, Everclear, The Mayfield Four, The Watchmen, Big Wreck, Nickelback opening for Everclear there. There’s also the over priced Casino show lounge ( bands usually play one hour exactly), our arena Brandt Center who has hosted Elton John, Tool, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Man Group, Phillip Phillips, our football field has had BIG name acts there (Taylor Field @ Mosaic Stadium) Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, etc. We also have another bar called Pure, The Pump and The Tap. The Exchange and the Riddel Center are my favourites. I would add Doris Knight Hall, but I haven’t seen anyone use it in years.

So why do I listen to metal? A few reasons. I find it very compatible with classical music. There aren’t many rock groups out there now, and “Chemical Horizon” the rock band I was in when I was struck with cancer, played quite a few times at the Exchange. It was difficult to find rock bands to play a show with, lots of groups were playing straight up metal.
We were influenced by other local groups who played at the Exchange, and I quickly became a casual metal fan. I used to be very opposed to metal, like pretty much everyone else. I wasn’t listening to any big name grunge bands in the ’90s, I was listening to “Hootie & The Blowfish” and “Barenaked Ladies” and other acoustic music or U2, then I was hooked on I Mother Earth’s Alt rock album from ’96 “Scenery & Fish” at the time that was the heaviest music I listened to. My brother and I would blast that album in the kitchen while doing the dishes. Everytime we did, my mother would yell at us from the living room to turn it down, please.
This was my intro to rock music, then I quickly became a fan of “The Matthew Good Band”, “The Tea Party” and “Foo Fighters”. I went backwards and bought the CDs from the grunge explosion in Seattle. But not Soungarden until I met Corey McDonald in SIAST. He said to me, “Check out Soundgarden. Not the ‘Superunknown’ album, the ‘Badmotorfinger’ album”. So I did, I went backwards from 2002 to the early ’90s.
I don’t just listen to metal & hard rock though!

OK, let’s get something straight. Foo Fighters and Big Wreck have been my favourite bands since the late ’90s. I don’t like every single song on every single album! I like that they both take risks that die hard fans may hate. Foo Fighters had less favourable songs from the 4th album “One by One” all the way to their 6th album “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” for me. Their 5th album, the double album, with 10 rock songs and 10 acoustic songs, I preferred the acoustic album. The rock CD had a few songs I liked. The acoustic album I could listen to it all the way through.
Why did this not make it too the, meh, 4th album but was released as a B-Side?
Big Wreck 2nd album “The Pleasure & The Greed” had lots of incredible songs and about 4 or 5 in the first half of the 16 song album. Foo Fighters & Big Wreck songs that I like, above for FF and here for BW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2T0Fa-fNGQ 1st song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsco84fcwj4 Then you hit this at song number 7 and let it play, for me, one of my all time favourite albums! Until I saw Big Wreck in ’99 and bought Foo Fighters 2nd album, “The Colour & The Shape” in ’97, U2 was the be all & end all for me. Yes, I still like U2 from “Boy” to “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”.
