DIXIE CHICKS

Monday, March 31st 2014

Most country music I don’t like so any country artists are a rarity on this blog. I enjoy the Dixie Chicks but rarely listen to them, and no I didn’t purchase the 4 CDs, Kim did, she’s the country fan in this house. I don’t like every song from every album but here’s a few I do like quite a bit…..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pojL_35QlSI Most songs seem better with string instruments involved, for me anyways!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4_wXPZ1Bnk I hope everyone knows this is a cover of “Fleetwood Mac”!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7b42MEYzBE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2ksenLQ_RE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dom7VlltBUc

Whenever Kim put’s on one of their albums, I shut up and listen since I don’t mind it. It doesn’t have that country twang to it and it’s not something you hear constantly on Kim’s country radio stations.

“Last night” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja65XrIXKbc (I love this album) we we’re at my parents place for Mitch’s birthday dinner and cake, chocolate cake! Great when I’m trying to shed some weight! I had one piece of cake with no ice cream, instead of 2 pieces with ice cream.

Just trying to get my T-Shirts to fit again. My pants like to fall down though! Aah who needs pants anyways?! Maybe this guy I would think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DMF5jDhmkI. When I got sick I was 265lbs and didn’t look like it really. Probably more muscle in my legs I’d assume, a week ago I was 230lbs, and my T-Shirts still don’t fit!? All of the weight went to my stomach though, it is getting smaller though.

Juicing a couple days a week, I always have turkey + roast beef deli meat with a little cheese a strip of bacon and sun dried tomatoes in 2 lettuce wraps for lunch. Fruit and 0% yogurt for breakfast then either vegetable juice or a healthy supper and a fruit juice afterwards. Lot’s of water each day. It’s not a diet, it’s just being conscious of what you put in your body. Different eating habits. It doesn’t have to taste awful to be good for you!

DISTURBED

Sunday, March 30th 2014

I was a big fan when the 2nd CD was released and immediately bought the first CD. Then I saw them live on the Much Music awards, not good at all. David Draiman can’t pull it off live. 3rd CD came out and I didn’t bother. He produced the recent Trivium album, which had me worried until I heard it, it’s one of those albums for me that’s hard for me to not listen to.

I’ve just recently started listening to the 2 Disturbed CDs again, not bad but not great give them a D as a group, maybe a D+. BETTER TO NOT HAVE THE KIDS IN THE ROOM! WARNING!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwLxg-yvEmc They did cover Tears for Fears on this album though…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFCz4e6rWzg

Here’ a couple songs from the 2nd album that sold millions of copies…..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0slEdA1WgFA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYdP3mW6Il4

I didn’t bother getting the 3rd album. It has this Genesis cover but I have the original and an In Flames cover of it, not really needed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV4oYkIeGJc

Original the one I prefer, covers are good to hear by other groups to hear what they’re into but it’s not something I’d listen to on a regular basis.

DISHWALLA

Sunday, March 30th 2014

Who? ’90s throw back Sunday! I own 2 of their CDs and 1 of them isn’t on iTunes? I guess it’s a good thing I bought it while in high school!? I was really into them at the time and now they’re just “meh, OK” to me. This is likely the only song you might know by them? Off of their album “Pet Your Friends” don’t do that…..EVER, unless you want to be the creepy person at the party…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Clxtg2pFTQM

I’m pretty sure that it’s the only song that made it to radio, but didn’t get very high on the charts. This is from the 2nd CD I own….

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=citg4fl73XM Post grunge that every music label was looking for after Kurt Cobain’s suicide in ’94 and it will be 20 years on April 4th that his body was found.

The police in Seattle have recently released 35 photos of the scene, including the suicide note. WHY? I’m sure his friends and family don’t want to have that stuff all over the internet for Joe Blow to look at, his friends and family likely won’t look at them. I haven’t seen them, the “Rock It Out Blog” said they were released. If you see them, remember to treat them with respect. He wasn’t just a famous musician, he was a husband, father, son, son-in-law, friend, etc.

This is off of “The Devin Townsend Band” album I have to get yet, on my ever growing list of music to purchase from iTunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMLXoobDKWs

Sure that’s rather heavy. This song isn’t and it’s the first song on that album…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzTtzKTb0Go That’s pretty much a 180 from the other song.

I’m still recovering from Friday night, no hangover only 2 beers, just a late night. I usually hit the hay at 11pm at the latest on Fridays and Saturdays. 1:30am was far too late! Kim got up to meet a friend of her’s at 9:30am on Saturday and I really wanted to stay in bed! I had to get up though, having Brewster is like having a young child.

I’m back online today, but not much. Feel free to use the comment section below each post if you like? Yes, the new album by Chromeo has been pre ordered on iTunes, with 4 songs already released from it if you pre order it…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhmUnk454MA This must be the catchiest song I’ve ever heard other than Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”. This just makes me want to “bust a move”! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_D3VFfhvs4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouPNDB21a7Q Believe it or not this won a Grammy for best rap song of ’89 at the 1990 award show! Yes, it’s still decent to me.

DIRE STRAITS

Saturday, March 29th 2014

Probably known for the album “Brothers in Arms”. I think I heard a LONG time ago it was 50% of house holds in England or maybe the UK had this album, on cassette or vinyl? CDs weren’t a big think or not even made when this album was released in 1985. I was 5 years old! Why do I have a few albums? I have 4 CDs that I borrowed from my father including a Greatest Hits album and I bought a different Greatest Hits album in 2005 or 2006? I assume people my age have seen this video when MTV or Much Music played videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNxGr2CKLfw yes that’s Sting from The Police on backing vocals. Why do I have these albums? I grew up listening to my parents music, on road trips to Hamiota, Manitoba or my Grandparents cabin 20minutes north of Moose Jaw! While my mother was gagging and telling me to hold a plastic bag or an empty ice cream pale for Mitch who would get car sick. This is the first song off of “Brothers in Arms”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaaIZDywirg

This is a fun song I have on both Greatest Hits albums

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtvPmkVjNZM

I have the “Brothers in Arms”, “Love over Gold”, “Communique” albums and 2 Greatest Hits albums. I really like the “Brothers in Arms” album, I’d highly recommend checking it out on www.youtube.com or previewing it on iTunes!

I’ve started picking up my guitar lately. I taught myself before on the internet. Simple 3 note power chords, that were all over the radio in 2001 when I got my first guitar. I learned “Blackbird” by The Beatles as my first somewhat difficult song. If I couldn’t sing and play it at the same time, I just left it alone, this was the first finger picked song I could do both of…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrxZhWCAuQw

Then I went on to Radiohead, their 2nd album and learned these 2 songs in order…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrTB-iiecqk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrTB-iiecqk

What song do I still love to hear, it’s by Nirvana and it’s not “Smells like Teen Spirit”…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teetvAUcG_E We played this in my first band in University with Rob Wirtz, Dave Kliman, Rydell and myself. It’s from the “Nevermind” album that was released almost exactly a year after Dave Grohl joined Nirvana! As the 5th drummer for the group.

I watched Friday nights Blue Jays spring training game in Montreal. Left me with a few questions. Why did utility player Maicer Izturiz make the team again while not really contributing to the 1 run win for the Blue Jays? Who got a double in the bottom of the 9th inning and replaced starting All-Star short stop Jose Reyes and scored the winning run? It wasn’t Izturiz, it was fan favourite Munenori Kawasaki, who played over half of the season last year, because of injuries, at short stop and a handful of games at 2nd base. He had big-time clutch hits last year and again Friday night! He’s 30+ years old, still a minor league player always will be, excellent defender, fast on the base path, and a clutch hitter. He’s also a leader who does things right. Even Friday he was in the outfield catching fly balls before the SPRING TRAINING game that means nothing. He’s being shipped off to the minor league, yet Izturiz has a guaranteed spot as a back up infielder?

I haven’t looked at the numbers, which mean something in baseball, it would be a no brainer to me! Who keeps things loose in the dugout and is always ready and willing to do whatever is needed for the team? KAWASAKI! So far this is the only mistake the Blue Jays have made this year. They dumped Arencibia, which was a smart move, he was a wreck last year and they’ve made 2nd baseman Ryan Goins a great all round player. There’s no reason for a terrible season unless 9/10 players are injured again!

After the game Friday I had a coffee since we were going to The Exchange to see my brother’s group play, (late nights make me not want to play live as much fun as it was, we got home at 1:15am? I’m old!) “Room 333” the room I was in for most of 2008 in the Pasqua Hospital sleeping 23 hours a day waking up only for pain killers or Physiotherapy. 6 days after my 28th birthday. I had a cell phone for a year, then BAM cancer, coincidence? Probably not. It’s just my sense of humour!

The Blue Jays had their final spring training game today. Regular season begins Monday in Tampa Bay! Baseball turns my crank. I played it for long enough 4 years old-17 years old. I’m a great couch manager/coach! Ask Kim! “Are you talking to me, the TV or Brewster?”. “Are you about to slide into 3rd base?” I reply. She hates baseball like most people do.

THE DEVIN TOWSEND BAND

Friday, March 28th 2014

Yes, metal music. A group I just started listening too as of a few months ago.

Rock fans have gone 2 ways that I know of. Metal or stuff completely different, country, pop, emo, etc. I’ve gone both ways, probably more towards metal and classic rock, Queen always, just got most of the Led Zeppelin stuff to go along with the 3 CDs and 3 CD box set I have of them, The Beatles, The Cars, Doug & The Slugs, Billy Joel, Elton John, Paul McCartney, etc. Pink and a TON of Kelly Clarkson, Jimmy Eat World, Eve 6, etc. At least there’s some awesome artists who haven’t jumped ship on us, Foo Fighters, Rush, Queens of the Stone Age, Peal Jam, Tool, Alice in Chains are back (as Jerry Cantrell and friends), Soungarden is back, No Doubt is back, etc.

Anyways The Devin Townsend Band. I recently started listening to them, took me long enough! If you’re not a metal fan, don’t click on the following links.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65gsQucAsfE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaKvwsl2rmw

I haven’t listened to them as much as I’d like, I have way too much stuff to get to? Why? Because I want to listen to some Jazz, Pop, Ska, Punk, Country, Alternative, Grunge, Rock (like Tom Petty and Dire Straits), Metal, etc. I want to listen to lots of different stuff! My iPod has 72gb open out of 143gb and there’s still some stuff not on it that I have in my file folder!

I’m taking a break from the computer for a bit, I’ll catch you tomorrow or Monday at the latest!

A DAY TO REMEMBER

Thursday, March 27th 2014

I don’t know if you’d call them scremo, metal or whatever else. Vocals of Jimmy Eat World with music of Lamb of God? Whatever you want to call them is fine with me. I don’t like labeling any music other than good or bad.

I don’t like to crap on any band publically if I’m not a fan, other than James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich from Metallica. I don’t like their music and they were portrayed as terrible people in the documentary “Some Kind of Monster” I acknowledge them for the music I listen to today, but I don’t have to like them or understand them!

Anyways, I own 2 iTunes albums by “A Day to Remember”, “Common Courtesy” and “Homesick”. Here’s a few songs for you to check out. If you’re not a fan of hard rock or metal, don’t bother. I just heard of them a few weeks ago.

Pharrell Williams collaborated with Daft Punk to give us the hit of the fall/winter which I still like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoB9OiTJw40

He made a song of his own that was pretty catchy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM

Collaborated to give us this..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyDUC1LUXSU Like this song or not (I don’t). What was he thinking? And Robin Thicke is in the middle of a divorce and I’m sure this was a part of it, certainly with a lot of other stuff.

I’m thinking about getting this album after I preview it on iTunes or at least this song?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhmUnk454MA This is just catchy!

I prefer this version, this sort of evens the playing field!

CANADIAN ROCK BANDS ARE REUNITING

Wednesday, March 26th 2014

I say this with a tear in my eye. The Canadian band I hated in the ’90s is back and I don’t like ripping on bands, but this one got me down. Many, many others will love this news, not me though. MOIST. YAY……………………….for everyone else and BOO for me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0jJi0SlwuM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8xBETsR5ck Both from their first album. They debuted in ’94, and everyone around me was acting like it was the 2nd coming of The Beatles. I thought “What? Why? They aren’t good to me?” I’d place them with Metallica, Guns n’ Roses and the ’80s hair metal scene in L.A. Here’s a few tracks I heard on the radio from their second album. A bit better, but still not for me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8X9ahwoH04

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5-HDxyYlbw#aid=P-JEtTXrNus

They went on to make other albums after that according to iTunes. There weren’t anymore songs on the radio or videos on Much Music. I saw them once in Saskatoon since they were touring with I Mother Earth. Great segue!

I was reading on I Mother Earth’s website that Christian Tanna and Jagori Tanna (drummer and guitar player) are having a lot of fun coming up with new song ideas. I hope that means there’s a possibility of a new album? I’m not counting my chickens yet though! I really like I.M.E. albums. The first alternative rock band I got into, Mitch as well. 4 albums and one single when they got back together! A song from each album and the recent single!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRi6nhp8J40

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STN2F1oEbdY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAs6o-kqRDg My favourite song by them!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2TqH2rog2c Yes, that’s slap guitar not bass! Jag did that on pretty much every album. This album was titled “The Quicksilver Meat Dream” hence my poor choice of name on the Saskmetal.com board, Meat Dream or has Corey called me “Sausage Fantasy”. Here’s the single http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UBO_kc9XxI

Big Wreck is in the mixing process for their 2nd album since they reunited in 2012 after a 10 year split and 2 Big Wreck albums. They’re also making a video. So here’s a song from the 3 studio albums thus far…..

Chris Messer would ask me “Hey what’s that open riff that you play, how does that go? What’s that song called?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-AKI951poE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsco84fcwj4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HmW9rVAtVs

They also have a 7 song live EP on iTunes with the 7th song as a cover…..

Who doesn’t enjoy The Cars?..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwjlFFeR01E

The Watchmen are touring not recording though. Every song from them is good and they’re not anywhere near as heavy, just FANTASTIC!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blh5mTzFNAY 1 of the 6 good things to come out of Winnipeg! The Watchmen, The Franklin family, My Grandparents and Father, The Guess Who, My Physiotherapist and her husband (another David) and Bohemian Beer! The Gagnon family moved to Winnipeg, they didn’t originate in Winnipeg!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH6g0WVIf9A

The Odds have gotten back together too. 4 albums that started in the ’91.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ_0R3wtuf8 “Neopolitan” album

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNtjksCUMIA “Bedbugs” album

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZFPiG8dEBk “Good Weird Feeling”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eimpocAKIv0 “Nest”

The Tea Party are back as well. A 3 piece band with East Indian influences when I saw them way back when!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfaATa-qmG4 Our first band covered this as well as U2’s “With or Without you” same bass line though, never back to back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDYIlaaw_yI

That’s more than enough links! To check out if you like? Baseball season begins on Monday for me Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays for 4 games in Tampa Bay. This blog might slow down next week? We’ll see.
