THE ODDS

Thursday, October 31st

Happy birthday to my mother-in-law and happy 5th anniversary to Todd & Audra!

Here’s a review of the new Pearl Jam and Motorhead.  I like them both!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZFZkkLM-l4

The first single from Pearl Jam

The 2nd single

Two completely different sounding songs!

Here’s the opening track from the Motorhead album!

The Odds.  I got into them in elementary school, through David Field.  We’d play Megaman and listen to the Odds.  I saw them once in high school with Mike Middleton at the only outdoor show in the ’90s at Taylor Field.  They released 4 albums and then went on hiatus for a decade or so.  Here’s one track from each album in order.  “Neopolitan”, “Bed Bugs”, “Good Weird Feeling” and “Nest”, the newer stuff isn’t too bad either!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ_0R3wtuf8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1gExaMUeng Their biggest hit in Canada by far!  Still being played on the radio.

Then they went on a very long hiatus. I was just in the basement to avoid “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Bye,

Chris

I’M STILL TIRED

Thursday, October 31st

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  No, I’m not a person that waits all year for this, I don’t dress up unless needed, we didn’t even get kids at our door at our old house, across the street from an elementary school.  Last year we didn’t even buy candy and it was the first year we had over 3 kids?  We had around 7-10 kids and Kim had to turn them away and apologize to each kid or group of kids.

I’m not online much since my desktop computer is in the basement.  I get to the basement on my bum, lowering myself each step with my tricepts.  It’s just like a 2nd workout for me!  Which I’ve already done today.  I loathe working out 100 crunches, 40 leg lifts on my back, then 20 arm raises on my hands and knees, 50 leg raises from that position and usually 3-5 planks on my toes and fore arms.  I bruised my left big toe 2 weeks ago, so no planking, stairs or walking for me.  I’m back to doing 50-100 pushups from my hands and knees, with my knees as far back as possible, to make the pushups as difficult as possible!  Then I rest and hoover some water, then make my way down here.  I don’t like/feel great after a workout.  I feel tired and lazy.  Could be because of my workout music?  It’s not the new Fall Out Boy anymore it’s old school ’90s techno or rap with a loud beat to it or recent stuff I find catchy and may never listen to again, this stuff…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eSN8Cwit_s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5EofwRzit0 Of course I have Halestorm’s version/cover, not on my workout music though  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT9X8LF1wZU I do like both versions though!  I’ve never been a fan of Daft Punk though, this is the only song of theirs I’ve enjoyed thus far.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ib5H5auk-c

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZQQGX24Teg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic I can guarantee I’ll get sick off this followed by everything in this list!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWju37TZfo0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyrpTNzclU0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=149jGeIlx3I Then I heard “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie and was happy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0njPXDdj7Y8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up0cfNOXoCE

And finally  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Tr8KRqyGJk

No my home workout never takes that long but that’s what I listen to everytime I workout, everyday.  Then stuff more suited to my liking, like “Lightning Bolt” by Pearl Jam, “Aftershock” by Motorhead, “Worship Music” by Anthrax, “Vengeance Falls” by Trivium, “…Like Clockwork” by Q.O.T.S.A., “Fortress” by Alter Bridge, etc.

I really like the new Trivium album! If you like metal I highly recommend at least checking it out on iTunes!

Why do I torture myself with this everyday?  My first 2 CDs were C + C Music Factory and Bryan Adams “Waking up the Neighbours”  I got to see him live either this year or late last year?  Him with an acoustic guitar and a piano player, and that was all that was needed!

DR. MCMILLAN

Wednesday, October 30th

Yes, I saw Dr. McMillan this morning to get some refills and to start weening off of my anti-depressant pill. He told me if it goes alright in the next 3 months to go back and reduce it some more.  He wasn’t sure if my psychiatrist, Dr. Kumar, was still around.  As he left the room he told me that I’m a “medical marvel”.  Not really how I see it.  I’m alive I’m just a regular everyday guy who survived brain cancer and they all thought I’d never come out of my coma, 5%-15% chance of surviving and it was my body that helped me survive, I slept 23.5 hours a day, everyday.  I put my body on auto-pilot and did absolutely nothing.  I got lucky!  That’s all.  My entire family and friends supported me, even if I wasn’t conscious to see them.  That seems like a really messed up way to show love and respect but everybody deals with a bad situation in their own way I guess?

The White Stripes/Jack White.  For me Jack White is highly over rated.  No I’ve never been a lead guitarist, I’m just not a fan of his music.  Do any of you Canadians remember The Inbreds from Canada in the late ’90s?  They played Edge fest in ’98 and who was their biggest fan?  Dave Grohl.  Foo Fighters played that tour as well.  The Inbreds were original something no one had seen as a success before!  A bass player/singer with a drummer! That was all and it sounded good!  Most famous for this song and video, I may have to get an album or two?  I really don’t know much about them, but they were out long before The White Stripes!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAQNaA8LEAc   or this song from the same album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKQ69Dcxbao

Sandbox!  The group with Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys as the singer.  They were a one hit wonder with the song “Curious” but that entire album isn’t too bad, I bought it on iTunes and I like the majority of it.  It’s called “Bionic” if you want to check it out?  Here’s their one hit from the 3 albums they released, long before the Trailer Park Boys were thought of most likely.  No it’s not metal or hard rock don’t be afraid.

I have to go hold my mom’s hand while we watch Criminal Minds!

DR. TAI

Tuesday, October 29th

I didn’t even know 6:40 am existed until today, I had forgotten when I couldn’t sleep?  I was not sleeping for more than 2.5 hours.  I went through a massive depression in the WRC, while being weened off of methadone, then I was prescribed anti-psychotics (which I’m still on) and a sleeping pill that I haven’t taken for well over a year, maybe 2?  Methadone is pill for pain.  It’s what they give to heroin addicts, yet as Kim has read it’s harder to kick than heroin.  I was on 2.5mgs of it.  My doctor (Dr. McMillan) said I was the first patient he had ever gotten off of that much methadone, it must trigger a craving for sugar.  Jay of Jay & Silent Bob was givin it every morning and then Silent Bob aka Kevin Smith would take him to the donut shop once he had his pill.  I ate a TON of timbits and Boston Creams while on it.  Kim and I would go home after my last therapy of the day and stop at Tim Hortons so she could get a tea and I would get a Boston Cream.  At night we’d go back to the WRC and stop at Tim’s for a tea and 20 timbits.  No matter what I ate or drank I couldn’t put on weight?  My family was jealous.  I could eat anything and I kept losing weight. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen anymore!  I eat like crap and my old pants have no hope of fitting me.

I had a Dr. appointment this morning at the cancer clinic at 8am, just a routine check up to see Dr. Tai. I’ll have to see her once a year near the end of each year and have a ct-scan before I see her.  I didn’t have my scan yet, so I have one in November.  I’ll see her next year in October and have to get my scan before I see her again, just to make sure everything’s OK. Since Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 I’ve had 3 short colds and 3 minor headaches (other than cancer related illness’).  Yeah I have bad days and good days like anyone else.  I just seem to have bad days more often.

Dr. Tai wants to write a report about me with no names.  She has a patient at the moment with the same type of cancer around my age and she thinks writing a report on what I had done might help out.  I hope she’s right!  In 2009 when I moved to the WRC, there was a guy in Calgary who was 27, had a wife and 2 young kids, was walking to work and suddenly couldn’t read his phone, his eye sight was gone.  He had the same type of cancer as me. Unfortunately he didn’t see 28 and died in the hospital.  His wife was doing a blog while he was receiving treatment, Kim found it on some discussion board with people who have either had my type of cancer or know of someone who’s had/going through my type of cancer.

Dr. Tai suggested I see my psychiatrist again to see if I need my crazy pills, not Dr. McMillan, my family Dr.,  but my psychiatrist Dr. Kumar.  Tomorrow I see Dr. McMillan, just for refills, nothing serious, all’s well.  Dr. Tai doesn’t think I’ll ever get my balance back, but I’d love to prove her wrong!  If I’m in a wheelchair the rest of my life oh well.  I’ll always have a designated driver, an awesome parking spot and be able to make a reservation at any restaurant or pub.  All we have to do is say “Can we make a reservation for x number of people and have one spot for a wheelchair please?”.  It’s just the way Redler avoids Jehovah Witness’.  He answers the door and tells them he’s a Catholic school teacher, and he’s not lying, he is a Catholic school teacher!

54-40 from B.C.  Did anyone purchase the FRIENDS soundtrack after the first season with Hootie & the Blowfish singing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyWHKJ4BbyI ?  It’s a cover of the same song by 54-40, here’s the original version  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMZSSVt355I I don’t have any of their albums surprisingly yet I haven’t heard anything from them I didn’t like.  They’re most famous for this song which I like still   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkh4qdxLFH0 I have to do some more investigating on them on iTunes.  Of course they’re no longer together, this song was released in the early ’94. They went on to build their own studio on the royalties from Hootie & The Blowfish and recorded 7 more albums dating to 2011.

NORTH AMERICA vs. EUROPE AND THE U.K.

Saturday, October 26th

Sure I have a broken nose from being in a mosh pit in 1999 at an outdoor festival in Saskatoon.  Somebody fell on my face while crowd surfing.  I had blood on my shirt and shorts.  Guess what?  A path cleared to the bouncer who picked me up and sent me to the first aid tent beside the stage.  I wanted to get back out and listen to more Big Wreck.  Once the bleeding stopped I went back to the crowd out of the mosh pit.  Whenever a person fell everybody got of the way and helped the person out.  That’s what happens in North America and nobody tries to hurt another person. I’m too big and wouldn’t go into a mosh pit if I could.  I don’t want to hurt someone having a good time!

In Europe and the U.K. as I’ve heard the crowd doesn’t beat the crap out of each other, they jump in their own area.  In North America everybody shows respect for each other and if someone wants out of the mosh pit they let you out, no big deal.  Here’s 2 sides to the story to be fair.

NOT FOR KIDS!  LOT’S OF FOUL LANGUAGE IN ALL VIDEOS!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukIaneqx0VU

Even at an acoustic show!  This happens quite often at a Foo Fighters show!  Bad language but right on point! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl9GMOTaqtc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QclBVHeVj-I There is such a thing as concert etiquette.  People help others who need help at North American shows.  I’ve been there and have done that.  I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, you have the choice of joining the mosh pit or not.  If you choose to go in, remember concert etiquette!

THE TEA PARTY

Saturday, October 26th

Nothing political about them, another Canadian band back together after the success in the ’90s!  I hear they’re in the studio now.  I have 5 out of 6 of their albums including a Greatest Hits album.  Seeing them live is great though. They go from instrument to instrument throughout the show.  A ton of East Indian instruments mostly!  I saw them years ago at the Conexus Arts Center with the Matthew Good Band, not Matthew Good as a solo artist.  This is one of my favourite tunes off of the album “Edges of Twilight” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB71yNVjgq8

I think that was their first album?  They just became more famous in Canada with each album or big hit on the radio.  Like this hit from the album “Transmission”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q39q0fT3YiE

And this song on the Greatest Hits album “Tangents”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCwrQSe9m4c

Let me get this straight.  Rapists can pretty much do whatever they like and the victims have to shut up and deal with it?  That’s just flat out WRONG!

EMAIL & I MOTHER EARTH

Friday, October 25th

Look at that 2 times on my computer in one day, down in the basement, WOO HOO!

Is every one’s email trying to be more like face book?  Gmail is.  There are people who want nothing to do with face book.  Why does google continue to make these changes? Google+ stop it already!  I know who uses face book and who doesn’t. I don’t want to pick through my friends on gmail, give it up already!

Yes, it’s sad to hear about anyone’s death.  But if you know that person, a spouse, family member, or friend, and you know they’re struggling with an addiction of a hard drug like heroin, cocaine or crystal meth, you should expect an over dose or death.  Andy Wood (to be the singer for what is now Pearl Jam) who wrote the album “Temple of the Dog” in his memory

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUb450Alpps Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston was dabbling with heavy drugs at the time I think and now the character Finn from Glee which I’m not a big fan of the show at all.  If someone is struggling with that type of addiction, death or over dose should be no surprise and also will take time to deal with.

I Mother Earth, one of my favourite Canadian bands from the ’90s.  They got back together in 2012 I think it was and of course skipped over Saskatchewan as usual.  They’ve only been to Regina once since their debut in ’92.  The Canadian answer to grunge in Seattle.  The albums in order are “Dig”, “Scenery & Fish”, “Blue Green Orange” and in 2004 “The Quicksilver Meat Dream”  most famous for the “Scenery & Fish” album that had this big hit on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_1QAC_6Zuc

Then changed the singer for the next 2 albums with this song as the first single off of “Blue Green Orange” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMObYc4yNfQ My favourite recorded song with Brian Byrne as the singer.  They got back together last year to tour and release one new song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UBO_kc9XxI I haven’t seen them this go around…………….yet, here’s hoping!
