Saturday, August 31st

Why am I up so early?  Brewster was freaking out since there was a storm at 6:30 this morning.  Kim was already up with him and had taken him outside.  Then they came back to bed and woke me up.  Brewster was panting until I got dressed, had breakfast and brushed my teeth by 8:00.  Just in case I wasn’t awake yet.

This is on my facebook whatever you want to call it!  Like Dave Grohl or not, MUSICIANS CALL HIM A GOD LIKE GENIOUS!   Foo Fighters are a positive house hold name.  FACT.  Other than Dave Grohl’s potty mouth, I’ve never really heard anything negative about them.  There are some songs I’m not a fan of but this song is one of my favourite album tracks off of “There’s Nothing Left to Lose” the 3rd album, and it’s not a heavy rock song. RUSH I’ve mostly heard negative things and they are a house hold name.  I do enjoy the newer stuff from them, especially the “Snakes & Arrows” album with this opening track.   Geddy Lee’s voice isn’t mixed a hundred yards in front of the band like the stuff on the radio where they play “Tom Sawyer”, “Fly by Night” and “Closer to the Heart”!  This was the first RUSH song and album I liked about a month or so ago.  Took me long enough!

Yeah, I have my off days when I wake up and think “Why?”.  “Why does something like this ever happen to ANYONE?”.  Then I get up and go about my day and deal with a disability, that could have been much worse.  I got lucky, I survived!  I’m no hero or victim, I’m just a regular guy, with an amazing wife and family, and had great people helping me through something I may not have survived!  Kim doesn’t get the credit she deserves!  I would love to do something for her, but I don’t know what?  I can’t just step out and get anything for her, no one will let me drive and our money tree has no leaves on it.  I even have to stop getting albums off iTunes.

30 things to stop doing to yourself! Good list with somethings I need to stop doing!

Metal heads, NO VIDEO OR AUDIO, just a link to a true definition of metal heads!

Cool version of “Rocket Man” by Elton John covered by Maynard from TOOL and a guy from the Flaming Lips.  Quite a bit like the original version with Maynard’s fantastic voice!

I guess Big Wreck doesn’t play “Immigrant song” by Led Zeppelin anymore at the end of their set like they did from ’99-2002.  When I was able to see them, their first album came out in ’97 the 2nd album was released in 2001 or 2002.  Then we had “Thornley” until 2012.  Different, like comparing apples to oranges.  I wasn’t that big on “Thornley” others were though, same song writer and singer though.

Today this is what I’ll be doing!

I’m taking the day off from exercising. My body is tired of me exercising.  For the first time at home I got up while Kim came to say goodbye to me.  I got up while she was taking Brewster out, went to the washroom to brush my teeth and such as Kim was leaving, then went back to bed ( I never do that)!  I didn’t fall asleep, I just layed there listening to my iPod until I had my breakfast at 9am in the kitchen of course.  Peach, Banana, Yogurt, and a bowl of Oatmeal Raisin Crisp

Like him or hate him Dave Grohl is considered as a God like genius amongst most groups or solo artists, like Bowie, McCartney, Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Brian May of Queen, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, etc.  Yes and he has performed with all of them!

We’re in that valley right now.  Still waiting for Marilyn Manson, KISS, Slipknot, The Misfits, etc.  To take off the masks, make up and whatever Marilyn Manson is doing to his body.  Now we have very few rock bands around other than Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden is back, Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, and real metal music.  I can’t wait for this pop faze to blow over.  Or at least make music from the 90s, when you could find any type of music.

I don’t even know or remember some of these songs.  “Ahead by a Century” by The Tragically Hip is one of the few songs I like by them!  Am I ever glad that Limblifter is back!

Keep Adam Lind!  Do you really think the Blue Jays should spend millions of dollars on a Canadian born All-Star who is always injured?

Real album covers, this is crazy! Especially Ted Nugent!

Music just makes me happy, if I hear it or create it.  Being in any band with other friends is awesome! However many of the band members all friends, get together like once or twice a week, unless there’s a scheduling problem.  In a basement or garage and work away at making/creating something we would all enjoy.  Sorry all but being in a band with your sibling is AWESOME! Mitch would write the guitar parts, I’d write and sing the lyrics and if it was Jerry on bass, Todd or Jordan on drums, they’d create their own parts.  In my first band with Rob, Rydell and Dave, we were a cover band that had 7 original songs.  Rydell wrote 4 good songs and I wrote 1 of 3 good songs on our CD.  We were trying to figure out what we wanted to do and sound like.  I was a moron in my first band it was sort of “My way or the highway”.  I wanted us to sound more like Hootie & The Blowfish and Rydell wanted us to sound more like Metallica, who I really dislike to this day!  I realized I can’t come up with good guitar parts, but lyrics I could do, no problem!

Being in a band with Jordan or Todd, Jerry and Mitch, all far better musicians than I, was a really fun hobby.  We’d get together in Jordan’s or Todd’s basement and make the music we wanted to hear, not the terrible stuff on the radio!  Stuff we liked and wanted to hear!

CFL  Labour day weekend.  Article with Mike Reilly QB for Edmonton I’ll be cheering for Edmonton, since the Stampeders are full of morons.  I did pick B.C. and Calgary to win in my CFL page, but I’d rather see Edmonton and Montreal (as much as I dislike Montreal’s team) win.

News about Foo Fighters releasing an album next year with a completely different way of recording it, in a way nobody else has done?  Record it live in the studio maybe? Record it via Skype?  I don’t know, doesn’t really matter.  As long as the songs are good!

Paul McCartney’s New song and album titled “New”.  How could not at least respect McCartney or Lennon or any member of The Beatles!

Ricky Ray is injured???  QB for the Toronto Argonauts, Toronto and Winnipeg are the 2 eastern teams I cheer for unless it’s against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Men without Hats for me!

Indigo Joseph and Fly Points you need to check out on iTunes.  They’re not hard rock or metal, just very good and well worth checking out!

If there’s no global warming why am I sweating so much in an air conditioned house?

What are Foo Fighters?

I guess I shouldn’t set my expectations so high?  Then I wouldn’t be so disappointed by some people?!     What were you doing after January 30th 2009?  I was recovering still, throwing up everything and anything, even in a Booster Juice in the middle of the Southland Mall food court.  “Oh well, he survived” and then TONS of people disappeared like “Magic” Yes, there were a few people I expected to see and even more that I didn’t.  Lot’s of my friends and cousins were and still are at the point where they’re looking for their future spouse or popping out babies or raising young children.  That’s fine I get that!  So what’s your excuse for never coming to see me when I almost died in the hospital or Rehabilitation Center, which was far more difficult than anyone could imagine, and there is still a possibility that I could until December 31st 2013.  No, I don’t need a 100 people calling me or emailing me to see how I’m doing.  I’m fine, thanks for making me feel like a wet bag of dog shit on the bottom of your shoe!

Going through something like I did shows exactly who gives a shit about me!

Yes I love The Cars, all I have is their greatest hits but it’s all I need.  My dad’s music growing up, Elvis Costello, Queen, Dire Straits, The Beatles, etc.  And my mom’s music, The Monkeys, “Spirit in the Sky” The original/this version, Black Sabbath when Ozzy was still the singer, The Beach Boys, etc.

Kim has played the vito card on my music purchasing from iTunes.  We need to save our pennies for more important things like paying back our parents, my season tickets to the Riders next year, our mortgage and condo fees, a gas BBQ (no propane allowed), etc.

I’m 99.9% once Brewster kicks the bucket years down the road (he’s probably having his mid life crisis at 7 years old right now) we won’t be allowed to have another small dog in our condo. DUMBEST.RULE.EVER!  We pay the same amount as everyone else in the condo who are free to do whatever they like.  Why can’t we rescue a small dog?  How will that affect others.  It’s the same thing with gay marriage in the USA what people do is they’re own choice.  How will it affect anyone else?

Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam and Trivium will have to wait on iTunes I guess? Alter Bridge is already pre ordered on iTunes.  Jack Johnson comes out before the rest of them on September 17th. I have quite a bit of music to listen to as it is.  I would like more but our money tree has no leaves left on it, oh well.

We  have 2 concerts to make the 2 ½ hour drive to Saskatoon for this year.  I’d like to see the “Dixie Chicks”, but that wont happen.  Why do small name bands play in a small bar in Saskatoon and not Regina?  I’m positive more than 50% of the audience is from Regina at any show there.  Saskatoon is not known as a city full of music fans, so why?  They do have a bigger arena than us, but if you’re playing at a bar, you should consider coming to your fans, and not vice versa.

When Gord Downie learns how to sing and not do whatever you want to call it, then I’ll listen to The Tragically Hip.  I have 4 or 5 albums that I don’t listen to much. Like Johnny Cash, I never saw the appeal.  Even the movie wasn’t that great.  The movie “Ray” seemed much better to me.

Here are a few of my favourite songs, I’ll warn you if it’s metal or contains foul language. I.M.E. I.M.E. with freakin’ Edwin

Songs I won’t be purchasing the day they are released. Jack Johnson Trivium   METAL Pearl Jam a total 180 from the previous album.

Don’t know if this will work, here’s a trailer for a movie I’d like to see, as well as Despicable Me 2!

I guess “The Lone Ranger” tanked at the box office, I’ll rent it on demand then for $5.

Wednesday, August 28th

I fell about a month ago, leaving Sherry and James’ house and taking aunt Lorna to the bus station to return home.  I was walking along the side of the house and Kim piped up and told me just to put my hands on her shoulder.  We both fell on to the step outside of the house.  Luckily aunt Lorna left her suitcase there.  I fell right on it with my butt and I cushioned Kim’s fall.

If you don’t feel like reading this, that’s fine, my cancer story is over other than a post from my brother Mitch and a post from my parents all about Tuesday, February 5th 2008.

I’m not just a metal head and hard rock fan in the least, I wasn’t raised with that type of music playing in my parents “….apartment….” Yes this song was not played the first time I saw them when I was 12.  If you enjoy “Gordon”, you may enjoy their latest release “Grinning Streak” with this as the first single it also kicks off with this song I’ve been listening to them since the “grunge” scene exploded in ’91.  I was listening to my parents music until I got “The Joshua Tree” by U2 in whatever year that was.  Then our immediate family just listened to BNL mostly around the house while Nirvana was changing the face of music in Seattle.  I wasn’t into that right away?!  I was listening to BNL, The Waltons (A Regina acoustic group that opened for BNL when I was 12), U2 and other stuff.

Sweet Lorraine, written by a 96 year old man who’s wife had recently died.

This was not the first time I felt old. I felt old when Alicia Gillert, who I babysat, served me a pint of beer at Brewsters east.

Palliative Care Bike Tour started by Dave Moscaliuk and a friend raise a whopping amount of cash for the Palliative Care unit where I was as a patient.

I  am now the owner of the album by Avenged Sevenfold “Hail to the King” my first album of theirs, just released today, I had to preview it on iTunes to make sure I wanted it.  Not what I would call metal but close to it.  I pre ordered Alter Bridge’s next album “Fortress” on iTunes, also not what I would call metal but close to it.  Just to have this song on my iPod until the album is released October 8th I should pre order Jack Johnson as well.  Maybe after I talk with Kim and I’ll ask if our money tree has any leaves on it?  Alter Bridge and Jack Johnson have yet to “…disappoint….” me. I still like these guys quite a bit, always have.  Kim and I heard this on the radio yesterday and I turned it UP!

Isn’t radio supposed to play current singles/advertisements for albums being released?

I could pre order Trivium’s and Pearl Jam’s new album being released on October 15th but I won’t have a computer of my own, we’ll be staying at my parents house by then.

All of this outrage about Miley Cyrus. Do I, a 33 year old caucasian male who fits the description of most criminals with the exception of a wheelchair, really care?  Do I? Not in the least!  It’s all over the internet and I refuse to watch a video of her and Robin Thicke at any awards show!  Hasn’t Robin Thicke had his 15 minutes of fame?  I can’t get away fast enough from his song, and I rarely listen to the radio?!

Played 3 games of cribbage this afternoon with Kris from the A.B.I. program like we do most Tuesdays at 1pm, to keep my wheels spinning!  Isn’t this exciting stuff?…………………NO!

Regina Police save 2 kids

Sorry, now it’s Wednesday, August 28th

Teachers are VERY underpaid if you ask me or most people!

I don’t need any type of review these days.  I know what I want if the money’s lying around!

It would be great in Canada if all of these bands reunited except “Age of Electric” if they did there would be no Limblifter, who have reunited already.  It would be just like the 90s in Canada, everyone could get their slice of the pie.  I don’t enjoy all of these groups but it would be equal opportunity for most.

Blue Jays article by the extremely negative analyst Dirk Hayhurst.

Another article about the Blue Jays and what will change in the off-season

I had to get offline early yesterday, we we’re meeting some friends for a movie at 7:20pm at the Southland Mall.  We went to see “Jobs”. All about Steve Jobs building the Apple industry from his parents garage with his friends into a multi billion dollar company, a very good show!  Highly recommend it for anyone and everyone.  Ashton Kutcher is great in it!  It’s not a comedy, drama or horror movie, it’s a true story!

Country music, rap, or pop can be just as offensive as hard rock or metal. Why not make most people unhappy with the music at the Rider home games and play some soft rock or 80s new wave?

There’s a facebook page called “Where did all of the rock bands go?” They’re out there, you just have to look harder for them.  Yesterday “Hail the King” by Avenged Sevenfold was released more of a metal group.  Pearl Jam, Alter Bridge and Trivium are set to be released in October and Foo Fighters have one coming “next year” Hopefully TOOL will also.  You miss Radiohead releasing actual music when they got to the 4th album “Kid A”?  Check out MUSE, just not “Showbiz” or “The Resistance”  I didn’t really care for those albums.

Monday, August 26th

Well, music is subjective.  You don’t need to like the same music as everyone else.  I’m not a fan of most 80s L.A. metal, surprise!  I’m not a fan of Metallica or Guns n’ Roses.  I listened to 104.9 The Wolf today for the first time in two months.  I heard a few songs that were new to me, if it’s on Regina’s “rock” station I’ve either heard it and bought it or never want to hear it again.  Nothing I heard was memorable.

Rydell recommended One Bad Son, which I heard on the radio, to me.  I listened to a different album by them and bought the majority of that album, why?  Because the singer sounds quite a bit like Axl Rose from “Axl and Friends” aka Guns n’ Roses.  One Bad Son from Saskatoon has been stuck at no.12 on the rock charts for 6 weeks, do I care?  No!  Not everyone will like every song by every artist.  I enjoy going to shows at the Exchange. I don’t go there as often as I used to.  I was there just about every two weeks on a weekend if there was a local band playing that I wanted to see.  It was me in my usual spot, behind the chained off mixing board with 1 Calgary beer all night.  Just soaking it all up. Now there’s all of these great shows I’d like to see but there’s always something conflicting with my busy schedule?

The release dates of those albums being released this year will be the rest of the music I’ll buy this year on iTunes and if a local group that I like releases a CD I’ll buy that actual CD.  Tomorrow with the release of Avenged Sevenfold and the new Trivium album being released October 15th, I’m a little weary of.  I’ve never listened to any Avenged Sevenfold and the upcoming release from Trivium sounds as though it was heavily influenced by producer David Draiman of the now defunct Disturbed.

I’m not a fan of every Foo Fighters song either, like this song on their greatest hits album and played at every show I’ve been at. Other than that 1 song on their 3rd album, I can listen to the first 3 albums and only skip that song.  On the 4th album, One by One, the first 4 tracks and the last track I like.  On the 5th/double album I prefer the acoustic album far more than the rock album.  I prefer the rare B-Sides by them, and their cover songs of different artists like Prince’s “Darling Nikki”, Pink Floyd’s “Have a Cigar”, Sir Paul McCartney and Wings “Band on the Run” or their own “The Colour and The Shape” and “Iron and Stone” which I think may also be a cover tune?  Here’s “Band on the Run” Foo Fighters style.  Very close to the original version!

When was the last time I.M.E. came to Saskatchewan?  I saw them in Saskatoon on the “Scenery and Fish” tour with Edwin, and once here in Regina on the “Blue, Green, Orange” tour well over a decade ago.  “The Quicksilver Meat Dream” was released in 2004 and then they disappeared.  They got back together and toured sort of.  A popular 90s band from Ontario that conveniently skip the middle of Canada whenever possible it seems.

Kim and I have agreed not to get Christmas gifts for each other this year and save some cash for more important things, like paying back money from our parents and mortgage payments and condo fees.  We fully intend to get gifts for others though.  We won’t leave everyone “high and dry”!
